Mercy Health Plans Leans on Sense Corp for an Enterprise Automation Solution
4/5/2007 - When Mercy Health Plans (MHP), part of the Sisters of Mercy Health System, went looking for an enterprise automation solution that would complement a new ERP implementation as well as support the scheduling needs of other applications, certain key criteria guided their search.
They needed a leading vendor that offered functionality and full integration with their existing ETL and reporting systems, and an intuitive interface to make operation and trouble shooting easy for the internal support staff.

After researching several applications, Mercy selected AppWorx.

"We were very impressed by the look and feel of AppWorx. The graphical user interface allowed operators to quickly understand the purpose of each flow and diagnose any issues," said Frank Trau, Manager Production Services - Health Plan. He continued, "The object-oriented approach of AppWorx provided an excellent foundation for the development of reusable templates to support our business needs."

To assist the internal team, Mercy partnered with Sense Corp to deploy the AppWorx solution. "We were drawn to Sense Corp because of their direct AppWorx experience and their ability to bridge our business needs with technology," said Trau.

From the beginning, Sense Corp worked with Mercy’s team on the overall architecture and implementation plan.

Making smart use of technology, Sense Corp leveraged AppWorx in the design for Mercy’s customer electronic data interchange (EDI) and custom report application, both of which supported the new ERP implementation.

AppWorx object-oriented architecture meant existing processes could be modified quickly and new processes could be added to easily meet the changing needs of the enterprise. Little knowledge of the business logic behind the application would be required for maintenance, so development staff could spend more time developing rather than simply sustaining existing processes.

Sense Corp aided Mercy in delivering standard AppWorx templates using a table-ized, parameter-driven approach to take advantage of AppWorx object-oriented architecture. The table-ized solution provided Mercy analysts with the ability to execute both calendar-based and event-driven mission critical reports. The solution integrated fully with the Oracle RDBMS, and new jobs could be created with minimal data and zero scripting.

In addition, if processes unexpectedly failed, critical support personnel received alerts on a mobile device, eliminating the need for long-nights babysitting a scheduler.

Mercy is now in the process of migrating all of its schedules to one centralized tool: AppWorx. Concluded Trau, "Thanks to Sense Corp and AppWorx, Mercy has a working enterprise solution that is both scalable and easy to support.”
